In Honor and Recognition of the "Class of 2022" High School Graduates!
Congratulations to all our youth who are graduating this year. The Bible says in 1 Timothy 4:12 “Let no man despise thy youth.” Going forward in this chapter of your life it will be challenging and new. With each challenge arises new opportunities but despise not thy youth.
There will be people who tell you that you may not be able to do certain things because you are young, but I encourage you not to despise your youth. Oftentimes we ourselves take our youth for granted, eager to grow up fast in a world that says, “you have to be this old to do this” or “this old to do that.” Instead, I encourage you to stop and pause. Maybe you’re excited for the road that lies ahead or like many, slightly terrified because you don’t know what you want to do. No matter how you feel it’s ok, this is how life goes, we anticipate and dream then we lose and are scared. You might get into that college you want but you may not, and if you do it may not be everything you hoped it would be. You may not get the job you want but perhaps the Lord blesses you with a job beyond your wildest dreams that takes you to places you’ve never dreamed. Perhaps you have your entire life planned out. Even when you get married and nothing goes the way you thought, that’s ok. The rhythm of your life may not move to the same beat as Someone else’s life.
Life is full of unexpectedness. College can be great and fun, but it can also be frustrating and hard or not for you at all. There is so much to learn from life so despise not thy youth. Choose your friends wisely, help whenever you can, pray often and love like Christ. Finally, remember that you are more than school and work and though school and work may grant you some purpose, ultimately your true purpose is found in Christ. Life is full of temporary things like your job, school and even life itself, but remember your relationship with Christ is rooted in eternity so appreciate the life God has given you, live it to the fullest and “DESPISE NOT YOUR YOUTH.”
